Study title: The Impact of Childhood-Onset Lupus on the Developing Brain
Principal investigator: Knight, Andrea
Study description: The purpose of this study is to understand how systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) affects the developing brain by comparing results on the emotional and cognitive functions of the brain between children and youth with SLE and healthy individuals. This study will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look at areas of the brain, followed by a cognitive and mental health assessment and a blood sample.
Recruitment information: We are looking for healthy children and youth between the age of 10-16 years old. Participants will complete two study visits at SickKids, one year apart. Both visits will be about 5 hours long for a total of 10 hours of your time over two years. Each visit include an MRI scan and a neuropsychological assessment. As a token of our appreciation, participants will receive volunteer hours, a summary report of their cognitive testing, picture of their brain and a gift card.
